The ASKME Airworthiness Certification (AWC) System automates the airworthiness certification process and provides a systems approach to capturing aircraft certification data in accordance with FAA Orders 8130.2, Airworthiness Certification of Aircraft, as amended, and 8900.1, Volume 8, Flight Standards Information Management System.

The primary interface to the airworthiness certification process for an applicant is the AWC Applicant Portal. This external-facing public website enables persons or entities wishing to obtain an airworthiness certificate for an aircraft to begin the process by completing FAA Form 8130-6, Application for a U.S. Airworthiness Certificate (an OMB-controlled form), via an anecdotal process. The portal allows users to enter personal and aircraft information, upload documents as required, and submit a completed application to the FAA electronically. As part of the airworthiness certification process, the Applicant Portal also allows an applicant to apply for Special Flight Permits (SFPs) and Special Flight Authorizations (SFAs).
