Certificate Request
The Certificate Request page allows you to select the type of airworthiness certificate for which you are applying. You access this page, after completing the Aircraft Registration page, in any of the following fashions:
- From the Aircraft Location page for new applications, after having entered the required aircraft location information, click Save & Next. The Certificate Request page displays.
- From the Aircraft Location for multiple certificates, after having entered the required aircraft location information, click Save & Next. The Certificate Request page displays. Note: as this page functions differently for multiple certificates, see Certificate Requested - Multiple Certificates.
- From the Aircraft Registration page for replacement applications, after having entered and saved the required information, click Save & Next.or select the Certificate Request link from the third-tier menu. The Certificate Request page displays.
- From the My AWC landing page, select the New Applications link under the My Applications tab. The My Applications list at the bottom of the screen displays your current applications. Select the appropriate application by clicking on the Number hyperlink. The Aircraft Registration page displays. Select the Certificate Request link from the third-tier menu. The Certificate Request page displays.
Special Note: The data on this page displays as read only when the application status is canceled, closed or withdrawn.
At the top of the FAA header, Help, User Guide, and References links are displayed in the right corner along with a Signout link. The Help link opens page-specific help for the current page. The User Guide link opens the Airworthiness Certification Applicant User Guide, which is the secondary resource for Airworthiness Certification Applicant Portal application user procedures and reference information. The References link opens a page allowing you to access FAA reference data relevant to Airworthiness Certification. The Signout link logs you out of the application and takes you to the System Use Notice. At the bottom of the FAA header, your name displays right justified along with a Person icon (
); clicking the icon displays a pop-up screen with a list of the roles assigned to you.

The Airworthiness Certification application navigation top-level menu bar displays just below the title bar and contains the links that provide access to the Airworthiness Certification commands, or functions: My AWC, Search, Reports and My Profile.
Below the top-level menu bar is a block showing the following application information.

Below the application data tabs display with links to the various pages in the application process. The tabs are color coded indicating whether the pages under that tab are complete (green), in progress (yellow) or not yet started (red). Those pages with required fields are marked with icons indicating completed (
), in progress (
), or not yet started (
)
The Certificate Requested page name appears below the application information block. You can select either a Standard or Special Certificate.
Request a Standard Certificate
To request a standard certificate, follow the steps below. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*).
- Select Standard Certificate from the Certificate Type drop-down list. A new drop-down list, Standard Certificate, displays.
- Select the appropriate category or categories from the Standard Certificate drop-down list by selecting the corresponding check box. The list contains the following choices:
- Normal
- Utility
- Acrobatic
- Transport
- Commuter
- Balloon
- Other
- If you selected Other above, enter a short description of the category in the Other text field that displays.

Click Save. If all the required fields have been completed, a confirmation message displays and a green check mark appears next to Certificate Requested in the third tier menu indicating that this section has been completed.
- Alternatively click Save &Next to save your entries and proceed to the Owners Information page. Click Reset before clicking save to clear all entries.
Request a Special Certificate
To request a special certificate, follow the steps below. Required fields are marked with a red asterisk (*).
- Select Special Certificate from the Certificate Type drop-down list. A new drop-down list, Special Certificate, is displayed.
- Select the appropriate item from the Special Certificate drop-down list. The list contains the following choices:
- Primary
- Light Sport
- Limited
- Provisional
- Restricted
- Experimental
- If you selected Light Sport, select the class from the Light Sport Class drop-down list that is displayed. The list contains the following selections
- Airplane
- Powered Parachute
- Weight-Shift-Control
- Glider
- Lighter than Air
- Rotocraft
- Powered-Lift
- Other (Specify)
If you selected Other(Specify) from the Light Sport list, enter the intended restricted use in the Other (Specify) text field.
- If you selected Provisional, select the class from the Provisional Class drop-down list that is displayed. The list contains the following selections
- If you selected Restricted, indicate one or more of the restricted uses from the Restricted drop-down list by selecting the corresponding check box. The list contains the following selections
- Agriculture and Pest Control
- Aerial Survey
- Aerial Advertising
- Forest (Wildlife Conservation)
- Patrolling
- Weather Control
- Other (Specify)
If you selected Other(Specify) from the Restricted list, enter the intended restricted use in the Other (Specify) text field.
- If you selected Experimental, indicate one or more of the experimental uses from the Experimental drop-down list by selecting the corresponding check box. The list contains the following selections
- Research and Development
- Amateur Built
- Exhibition
- Air Racing
- Crew Training
- Market Survey
- To Show Compliance with CFR
- Operating (Primary Category) Kit Built Aircraft
- Operating Light Sport
- Unmanned Aircraft
- Optionally Piloted Aircraft
- If you selected Unmanned Aircraft, from the Experimental drop-down list, then select one or more of the following from the Unmanned drop-down list
- Research and Development
- Market Survey
- Crew Training
- Exhibition
- To Show Compliance with CFR
- Select the Do Not Code checkbox if the certificate(s) being requested will temporarily replace the current certificate but the aircraft should not be added to the Registry as a separate registration. If this does not apply, leave the checkbox blank
- The Do Not Code checkbox only appears if you select Experimental (Research and Development) and/or Experimental (To Show Compliance with CFR).
- If you select this checkbox, then you will need on the Certification and Document page to enter the date that the original certificate will be reinstated.
- If you check the Current Airworthiness Certificate to Retain, type the information in the Current Airworthiness Certificate to Retain field and select the Date of Issuance.
- Click Save. If all the required fields have been completed, a green check mark appears next to Certificate Requested indicating that this section has been completed.

Alternatively, you can click Save & Next to save the data on this page and move forward in the application process. Click Reset before clicking save to clear all entries. For a new or amended certificate, the Owners Information page displays. See Owners Information.
